Welcome to Episode 2 of the With Grace and Faith Podcast! On today’s podcast, we are going to talk about what happened the actual day that Jesus ripped me out of New Age Spirituality! In the last episode, I talked about my background, how I got into New Age Spirituality, some experiences, and how at my rock bottom, Jesus revealed himself.

January 1st, 2022

So I left off the last episode by asking God if practicing spirituality was okay or not. On January 1st, I finally got that answer! That morning, I was washing dishes and had a thought come to my head, whatever happened to Doreen Virtue? A little bit of backstory, when I lived in Colorado, I was looking for her angel number book at a local metaphysical shop. When I had asked the cashier about the book, she had told me, “Oh, Doreen? She went off the deep end.” but never thought of anything past that. 

After thinking about Doreen, I decided to put on a podcast on Apple podcasts where she spoke out against spirituality. Then came the verse that changed everything!

Deuteronomy 18:10-14

“When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, be very careful not to imitate the detestable customs of the nations living there. 10 For example, never sacrifice your son or daughter as a burnt offering.[a] And do not let your people practice fortune-telling, or use sorcery, or interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft, 11 or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth the spirits of the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord. It is because the other nations have done these detestable things that the Lord your God will drive them out ahead of you. 13 But you must be blameless before the Lord your God. 14 The nations you are about to displace consult sorcerers and fortune-tellers, but the Lord your God forbids you to do such things.”

I stood there in the kitchen, shocked. I went to psychics and mediums and religiously practiced witchcraft with tarot readings and full moon rituals. It was at that moment I felt my sin all at once.

As I continued to listen, she pulled out a few more verses, but one of them was condemning astrology.

From that moment, I saw the truth for what it was. That there was only one truth, and I fell for the lie spirituality offered me. From that moment on, I knew my life, or my family’s life would never look the same again.

The second rabbit hole 

After listening to the podcast, I wanted to know more. Was the law of attraction true? Was anything I believed from New Age Spirituality true? From that point, I searched on Youtube. For 3 days. I found videos from former new agers telling me the truth about all of the lies I had been believing. I came across Steven Bancarz’s videos, which debunk all things spirituality, and it was fantastic to understand why all of it was wrong. 

I decided to give away 75% of the New Age items I’ve acquired over the years to a friend and throw out the rest of the New Age stuff in the garbage. Looking back, I regret not throwing all of it away. But at that time, I thought it would be in a better place than my home.

But as things were being thrown away, my “spirit guides,” that were my friends before, turned their back on me real quick. 

Spiritual Warfare

As much as I would like to say when I left New Age Spirituality and decided to follow Jesus instead, it was rainbows and butterflies; it wasn’t. There was a lot of spiritual warfare. And the enemy knew he would get to me easily in my dreams. For about a month straight, I had re-occurring nightmares every single night and heard demonic voices. However, once I learned about Ephesians 6 and putting on the armor of God, the nightmares let up. 

How everything has changed

In all of 2022, God has rocked my world completely and made me a brand new creation, just like 2 Corinthians 5:17.

“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”

Now my priorities are straight for the first time; God first, husband second, family third, and everything else fourth. My marriage with my husband is the strongest it has ever been in the last 10 years. My relationships with my kids are also the strongest it’s ever been too. Also, I’m slowly getting back to my friends that I lost connection with in the past. 

Over this year, God has given me the clarity I needed about business. Going into this next season in life, I am so confident in where God is leading me because I’m building my business on the rock, on Jesus, instead of the world that is like quicksand.

Now here we are! By the time you are listening to this, it has been exactly one year since being saved by Jesus out of New Age Spirituality for good. I’ll be honest, life has been so so good since following Jesus, and yes, we have still had hardships. But even seasons of hardships are easier because we have Jesus to lean on.
